In the book Wednesday Wars, the main character Holling Hoodhood was threatened by his classmates. His teacher asked if he wanted another cream puff. Now these cream puffs were delicious looking, all the kids in his class had wanted one. And when his teacher, Mrs.Baker, had said another, the students were mad, jealous, and, well...hungry. Even though Holling had not touched the cream puff, the students thought he was lying. They said the would kill him if he didn't buy them all cream puffs. After school that day, he went to the bakery and checked the price of how many cream puffs he would need for every kid in his class. It would take him 3 weeks worth of allowance!
Here's how I would have handled that:
1. I would have asked Mrs. Baker to tell them that I did not eat the cream puff. Pros: She could tell them I did not eat it and to leave me alone, and possible punish them for threatening me. Cons: She could do the absolute opposite and say "You're being silly" and walk away.
2. I would say "Okay! Go ahead and kill me." Pros: They would never have the guts to kill me. Cons: They might hurt me really badly and never talk to me ever again. :(
3. I would have told them to stop threatening me because I did not eat the cream puff because it had fallen on the ground, (maybe a lie, it was covered with chalk dust from him banging erasers outside while the window sill the cream puffs were cooling on had the window open above it) and was too gross to eat. Then shudder at the thought. Pros: They might believe me and my acting skills. Cons: They might get angrier, thinking I'm lying right to their faces. What would you do in this situation?
