Egypt Project Reflections

Egypt Project Reflections

The videos and games helped me the most for the Egypt Project. I understood the information more than I did researching or anything else. I would have loved to learn even more though. I would liked to have learned more about how women were treated then and how they worshipped cats (if that is even true). But other than that, I feel I learned a good amount about Egypt and the people who lived there. I know that everybody in our group contributed to the script in some way. Some may have written more than others, but we all came up with part of the big idea and resolved the comments together. I feel I could have let everyone else write more than me, but they were super happy when I worked on it for a couple hours one night, so I don't think they cared at all about that. (We were really behind on it). Everyone contributed to the research on different Egyptian times, but I  feel like I could have worked faster. I did stay focused and tried hard, but I am not a star researcher. In fact, it is one of my least favorite things we need to do for school. How am I going to survive in 7th grade. Or...High school!!? I f we could re-do the puppet play I would have made sure the Lead Historian checked to make sure the gods we put in the play were actually representing what we thought they did.

Working in Groups

Working in Groups

Are you one of those people who hates to work in groups for only certain things? I am. I know it's weird, but when it comes to creative work, such as a play, I would wish I could take charge, or at least be the one who writes the entire script, edits the whole script, directs the actors, and produces it and make sure everything is perfect. Yeah, I sound bossy and micro managing, but I can't help it! It's part of my personality. Of course I did work in a group for the puppet play, and I actually didn't mind at all. I mean, I do like to work in groups for strict schoolwork, so I will have someone else to confide in for information, but when it is creative work, I would rather work alone. I'm am sort of like a writer in that way. I like quiet. In fact, while I'm writing right now, it is quiet. I would love to work collaboratively in class with my tablemates, but I hate getting assigned a group. I know the people I work best with and would most definitely work with them. I actually like my table group the way it is. So, thank you Ms. Morris! In conclusion, I like to work in groups for strict academic work, but prefer to work alone for the creative work. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it was what felt right to write for me. I am not one to care much about this kind of thing. I just go with whatever is necessary to make something, anything. Who I am working with doesn't matter to me. I could work collaboratively or alone and still be happy with the final product.

Wednesday Wars Post #1

In the book Wednesday Wars, the main character Holling Hoodhood was threatened by his classmates. His teacher asked if he wanted another cream puff. Now these cream puffs were delicious looking, all the kids in his class had wanted one. And when his teacher, Mrs.Baker, had said another, the students were mad, jealous, and, well...hungry. Even though Holling had not touched the cream puff, the students thought he was lying. They said the would kill him if he didn't buy them all cream puffs. After school that day, he went to the bakery and checked the price of how many cream puffs he would need for every kid in his class. It would take him 3 weeks worth of allowance!
Here's how I would have handled that:

1. I would have asked Mrs. Baker to tell them that I did not eat the cream puff. Pros: She could tell them I did not eat it and to leave me alone, and possible punish them for threatening me. Cons: She could do the absolute opposite and say "You're being silly" and walk away.

2. I would say "Okay! Go ahead and kill me." Pros: They would never have the guts to kill me. Cons: They might hurt me really badly and never talk to me ever again. :(

3. I would have told them to stop threatening me because I did not eat the cream puff because it had fallen on the ground, (maybe a lie, it was covered with chalk dust from him banging erasers outside while the window sill the cream puffs were cooling on had the window open above it) and was too gross to eat. Then shudder at the thought. Pros: They might believe me and my acting skills. Cons: They might get angrier, thinking I'm lying right to their faces. What would you do in this situation?
